The Genetics Department will focus on the process that takes place in our cells that results in traits being passed down, as well as learning about the parts of cells that are associated with this method. More than just covering the basics, we will also explore some career options, fun facts, how you can get involved in the field, technological advancements, real world applications and much more. We hope to spread knowledge and information as well as inspire women as they explore this department.

What is it?
Genetics is the study of genes and traits, and the processes of how they are passed from parents to offspring. Digging deeper, it incorporates parts of heredity and basic biology through exploring the structure and functions of certain cells, DNA, genes, and more.
Why is it important?

Genetics helps form connections between inheritance patterns, evolution, and disease, all helping scientists and researchers understand the human body better.

Branching away from healthcare, genetics can be used to help solve crimes by looking at DNA, and is also used in discovering ancestry. Genetics can be applied in so many different fields, from the sciences to more.
